I get the majority of my viewing entertainment watching YouTube videos of people making things. I watch Television occasionally with my wife. Netflix, Amazon Prime, & Disney+ have an option to download movies to my tablet so that I can watch them offline. This will be a list of the movies and/or shows that I have watched recently.
May 13th, 2023 – Amazon Prime – Renfield
We had heard a lot of good things about Nicolas Cage’s performance in this movie so we bought it on Amazon Prime. It is a really fun movie. It had a bit of gore to it but it was fun and had a lot of plot twists that were very amusing.
May 7th, 2023 – Edwards Theater – Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3
The whole family was all looking forward to seeing this movie and it did not disappoint.
February 6th, 2023 – Edwards Theater – Ant-Man and the Wasp – Quantumania
My son was super excited to go see this in the theatre so we went on opening night. It was meh, at best. If you have Disney+ I would wait until they stream it there. I just never cared about the characters because I knew that everything would work out OK.
September 11th, 2022 – Edwards Theater – Bullet Train
I’ve been looking forward to this movie for months and it did not disappoint. The acting was good and all the plot twists were awesome. I kept yelling out loud when unexpected stuff happened. I can’t wait until this reaches the streaming services or Red Box so that I can watch it again. I’m hoping that it will go to Red Box sooner so that it will be cheaper.
July 24th, 2022 – Netflix – The Gray man
This was a fun watch. Chris Evans plays a total douche bag psychopath and it’s awesome. We watched the entire thing in one sitting and totally enjoyed it. I have since watched all of the exciting parts again 4 or 5 times.
June 12th, 2022 – AMC Theatre – Jurassic World: Dominion
My wife got a bunch of AMC gift cards from work so we splurged and went to the AMC with the reclining chairs and food service and watched the new Jurassic World movie. It was everything that you would expect from a Jurassic movie. I ate popcorn and watched the movie and had a good time. Now, having said that, only about half of the dinosaurs felt real to me. The other half felt like CGI and when some of them were running through the forest/jungle I could see them kinda glitch and pop forward in space unnaturally. I’m also getting tired of the “Evil Corporation Guy” trying to ruin the world for personal gain trope. If you like the other Jurassic Park movies then you will like this one but the wonder of watching dinosaurs on the big screen is starting to wear off for me.
June 1st, 2022 – HBO MAX – Dr. Who
Did you know that the reboot seasons of Dr. WHo are on HBO MAX? Me either, until today. I have now watched the first half of season 1.
May 22nd, 2022 – Netflix – Love, Death, and Robots Season 3
I forgot that the new season had come out and ended up binging the whole thing. I went to bed at 2:00 am if that is any indication of how good it is.
May 21st, 2022 – streaming service – Smokin’ Aces
I walked into my bedroom and my wife had just started watching the movie. She had never seen it before and found it on her own. It is one of my guilty pleasures and I watch it every 2 or 3 years. I highly recommend watching it at least once.
May 8th, 2022 – Tristone Cinema – Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
I brought the whole family to see this at the theatre on Mother’s Day. I’m pretty well up to date on all of the Marvel movies and TV show so I didn’t have much of a problem following the plot. If you’re not up to date on all of them then you can be a little confused. Having said that, the movie was very fun but a little dense on how much stuff they crammed into it. It was a fun movie to watch and I never got bored. I will definitely watch it again when it comes out on Disney+.
April 2nd, 2022 – NETFLIX DVD – F9: The Fast Saga
I went into this movie with low expectations and they were totally met. I enjoyed the movie as entertainment but it was so over the top that it was like watching a cartoon but live action. 2 of the main characters flew a Pontiac Fiero into space with a rocket attached and took out an orbiting satellite. Nuff said!
September 14th, 2020 – NETFLIX DVD – Atomic Blonde
YouTube kept suggesting clips from this movie so I went ahead and put it to the top of my queue in Netflix. It was awesome! The music was awesome, the fight scenes were awesome, and Charlize Theron was awesome! The plot jumped around a little but I thoroughly had a good time watching it. It’s a spy/thriller set in Berlin at the end of the Cold War.
December 22nd, 2019 – REGAL CINEMA – Star Wars the Rise of Skywalker
It’s not the best or worst Star Wars movie. I saw it in the theatre and had a good time. If you liked The Last Jedi, you will like this one.
December 16th – NETFLIX – 6 Underground
Holy crap! This movie had the best opening car chase scene that I have ever watched.
November 15th, 2019 – Disney+ The Mandalorian
We are watching it every week and loving it so far.
October 15th, 2019 – NETFLIX – El Camino
My wife is a big Breaking Bad fan and really enjoyed this movie. I watched enough of the show to partially know who the main characters were. I remembered just enough to enjoy the movie.
October 11th, 2019 – Network TV – Oblivion
My wife and I watched it on broadcast television. It was meh at best.
September 23rd, 2019 – NETFLIX – Jiro Dreams of Sushi
One of my favorite podcasts, CORTEX, had a movie club episode where they talked about this documentary. I found the discussion fascinating so I watched the movie during my lunch break and it did not disappoint. I would highly recommend watching it. The only downside that I can think of is that it was all recorded in Japanese so you will have to read subtitles. That does not bother me and it was an awesome watch.
September 16th, 2019 – AMAZON PRIME – Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
We were scrolling through Amazon Prime on the TV and my younger son this movie and was super excited to watch it. I went into it fully expecting it to be terrible. It exceeded my expectations and was even worse than that. They had a little teaser at the end showimg a potentially sentient carrot. My son now wants to watch the second movie because he thinks it will be about killer carrots.
September 7th, 2019 – REGAL CINEMA – IT Chapter Two
I had a date night with my wife. We went to Agrusa’s Italian Restaurant and then to the theater across the street. I read the book back when it first came out in paperback and enjoyed it, except for the ending. I have not seen the Chapter One movie but the wife has. I’m not a big scary movie fan, but I actually enjoyed watching this one.
Aug 31st, 2019 – AMAZON PRIME – Mission: Impossible – Fallout
I noticed it while browsing through Prime so my wife and I watched it that night. It was a fun “popcorn” movie. You just disconnect your brain and enjoy.
Aug 1st, 2019 – NETFLIX – The Dark Crystal
I just heard about the new prequel series coming out on Netflix so I wanted to watch the original again before the it comes out. It held up way better than I expected.
July 15th, 2019 – Amazon Prime – Good Omens
I finally finished the series and was pleasantly surprised with the ending.
May 24th, 2019 – NETFLIX – Altered Carbon
I’ve been watching this at work on my iPad mini during lunch. I’m halfway through episode 6 and have really enjoyed it. I discovered that it has some scenes that aren’t quite appropriate for the workplace so make sure that you sit with your back towards the wall.
May 19th, 2019 – HBO – Game Of Thrones – The final episode
My son and I got back from the Boy Scout Canoe Trip at 4:00 pm. My wife had us at her friend’s house at 6:00 pm for a GoT watch party. I have only watched bits and pieces of the show here and there so I really wasn’t invested in it. It was a good thing too, because it was very slow and kinda disappointing.
April 28th, 2019 – Avengers: Endgame
The movie came out Friday and I took the whole family to watch it on Sunday. It did not disappoint. It answered all my questions, made me want to cry a little, and blew plenty of stuff up.
March 20th, 2019 – NETFLIX – Love, Death, & Robots
There are 18 episodes. 2/3 are awesome. The other third is just pretty good.
February 20th, 2019 – NETFLIX – The Umbrella Academy
The world is going to end in 8 days and I have no idea how to stop it.
After watching episode 2, I am hooked.
February 19th, 2019 – Alita Battle Angel
I saw this in the theatre tonight and it kicked ass! I am a big fan of the original anime movie and this one did not disappoint. It has a lot of the same plot holes as the original but the visuals were awesome and everything moved right along so I am happy. I hope they make a sequel and fill in some of those holes that I mentioned before.
February 18th, 2019 – NETFLIX – The Umbrella Academy
I watched the 1st episode at lunch today and it was very interesting. It’s dark and gritty and I am going to watch more.
January 30th, 2019 – NETFLIX – Polar
The trailer for this looked awesome. The opening scene was great but then it started to drag a little. Then it started to drag a lot. Then some kickass assassin stuff happened. Then it drug some more. Then some gratuitous sex, and some more assassin stuff. The slow stuff was needed to progress the story but they just made it so damn boring. If they took out half of the slow stuff and doubled the assassin stuff, and gave us a little more Johnny Knoxville, then it could have been a kickass movie.
January 1st, 2019 – Bumblebee – AMC
We got movie tickets from a family friend for Christmas. I wanted to see Mortal Engines and the kids wanted to see Bumblebee. Guess who won. It was better than the last full Transformers movie, but not by very much.
November 20th, 2018 – NETFLIX – The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
I heard an interview with the Coen Brothers on a Fresh Air podcast from NPR and they were talking about the movie so I downloaded it onto my iPad mini and watched it at lunch. It is 6 stories all set in the Old West. They are each individual tales and have a Coen Brothers twist. Overall I liked the movie and will advise you to watch it once. I may come back in the future and watch a couple of the stories one more time but I doubt if I will ever sit and watch the whole thing straight through again. ***December 12th update*** Stories # 1,2, &4 have now become my defaults for when I need to kill 15 minutes at the end of my lunch break. I have watched each at least 5 times.
November 21st, 2018 – Bohemian Rhapsody
My brother took my boys to his house to help bury the Turkey in a fiery pit for Thanksgiving so the wife and I went out to dinner and a movie. I had heard good things about this movie so I went into it cautiously optimistic and my expectations were pleasantly met. The first thing that we both said after the movie was that we wanted to see it again and couldn’t wait for it to come out on DVD.
September 23rd, 2018 – pay per view – Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
After watching the trailer for this movie I had no interest in seeing it in the theaters. The trailer pretty much ruined what little plot there was. My wife and kids rented it while I was outside working on some sit and reach boxes for my older son’s Boy Scout Troop. I watched it after dinner and it was pretty much everything that I had gleaned from the trailer. There were a couple of unexpected twists but nothing too outstanding. I am still a fan of the Jurassic Park series but I doubt if I will ever watch another one in the theater.
August 4th, 2018 – RED BOX – Ready Player One
This was my first viewing after reading the book and I still really enjoyed it. It makes me want to read the book again so that I can get better details though.
July 23rd-24th, 2018 – NETFLIX – Godzilla 2 – City on the edge of battle
I watched the 1st one a couple of months ago and liked it so I downloaded this one and watched it in the lunch room over 2 days. It’s an animated movie and the basic premise is that we were ruining the planet so Godzilla came and killed all the people to save the planet. A bunch of people escaped into space and have returned 20,000 Earth years later to try and reclaim it. The story is all over the place and the animation is decent. I can’t directly recommend other than the fact that once I started watching it, I couldn’t stop. Watch at your own risk.
July 22nd, 2018 – RED BOX – Pacific Rim Uprising
I am a big fan of the first film but nothing that I saw in the previews for this one looked good so I went ahead and skipped it when it was in the theaters. My kids wanted it when they saw it at the grocery store so we got it on Sunday and watched it that night. It was way better than I expected. It’s not as good as the first one but it kept me interested the whole time and I enjoyed it. I hope that they make a third one to finish off where this one ended.
July 10th, 2018 – NETFLIX documentary – The Toys That Made Us
I finished episode 8 at lunch today. It was about Hello Kitty. The Martian was on TV again tonight and my wife and I sat there and watched the whole thing. I think that it is time to read the book again.
June 20th, 2018 – NETFLIX documentary – The Toys That Made Us
This is an 8 part documentary series about how some of the most popular toys in the U.S. during the 1980’s came to be made. I just finished episode 6 and can’t wait to see the other 2. I highly recommend it for anybody that grew up in the 80’s and 90’s.
June 16th, 2018 – Deadpool 2
I had some time to kill so I stopped by the movie theater and Deadpool was starting in 5 minutes so I bought a ticket. I went in with zero expectations and was pleasantly surprised. It was not nearly as good as the first one but I still had a good time and had quite a few laugh out loud moments.
May 25th, 2018 – SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY
I was really looking forward to this movie. I took the 2 boys and the 8 year old got bored after about 30 minutes but the 11 year old and I loved it. I read the original Han Solo Trilogy Star Wars books before Disney took over and de-canonized everything and they did a really good job of explaining his origin. The movie differed from the books, like I expected, but it was still a really good time.
April 28th, 2018 – Avengers Infinity War
My wife had to work on Saturday so I took my 2 boys to go see Infinity War. I had fun watching it but at his point it’s just another Marvel movie. There was nothing bad with it, it was just pretty much the same as every other Marvel movie. I sat down, I ate my popcorn, and I watched the movie. The ending surprised me a little but that was about it. I’m glad that I watched it on the big screen though because it is always more fun that way.
April 21st, 2018 – Ready Player One
This book has been on my short list for a long time but I still have not got a chance to read it yet. My wife and I had a free night yesterday so we went to see it on the big screen while we had the chance. I know the basic premise for the story and the movie was everything that I hoped it would be. It had plenty of old school references to things that I had completely forgotten about. It had action, and it had humor. I would definitely recommend seeing it at the theater while you still can.
April 10, 2018 – Children of the Whales
This is an Anime style show that I downloaded on Netflix. It has a pretty original (at least to me) premise and I have enjoyed the 3 or 4 episodes that I have watched so far. Having said that, it’s starting to get a little boring so I plan on watching it more unless I find something else in the download section that looks interesting.
March 14, 2018 – ALDNOAH ZERO – Season 2
The 1st season had a very unexpected ending that I really liked. I have watched the 1st episode of the 2nd season and they were totally lazy and explained the ending from the last season away. I watched the entire episode and enjoyed it but was still kind of annoyed at how they handled it.
March 6, 2018 – Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
I got the chance to watch this on the big screen. You can read about it here.
February 22, 2018 – The Martian
My wife was watching The Martian last night when I came to bed so I ended up watching the last 3/4 of it. It is one of those movies that I can finish watching no matter where I come into it at. The book is also one of my favorites. I read it twice in a row when I first got it and have read it a couple of times since then.
February 2018 – Operation Chromite
I watched the 1st half during a lunch break last week and expect to finish it this week. Pretty good so far for what it is. I finished the second half and I enjoyed it. I believe that it was filmed in South Korea and I had to watch it with subtitles.
February 2018 – ROBOTECH
This was my favorite TV show in 6th grade. I would rush home after school to watch it. I am 4 episodes in and it is much simpler animation than I remember but it is fun to watch so far.
February 2018 – ALDNOAH ZERO – Season 1
This show kept me pretty interested throughout the entire first season. It had a decidedly unexpected ending. It looks like Season 2 just got released so I will pick it up when I get bored of watching ROBOTECH.
January/February 2018 – The Hateful Eight
I didn’t get a chance to see this in the theatre but once I found it on DVD it became one of my favorite movies of all time. It is streaming on Netflix now so I have watched it twice this year and at least a half dozen times in 2017.
January 2018 – One-Punch Man
I watched the first 4 episodes and lost interest.
